The old Polish EkoFundusz that I helped start back in the 1990s when I was the science counselor at the American Embassy in Warsaw, Poland, has been embraced by the EU as an example of innovative environmental funding. It is now the EcoFund Foundation. Following the initial American funding of the EcoFund, a number of European countries also contributed to its funding.
I am pleased to see that the EcoFund was found to be so successful that the EU is holding it up as a model for other environmental organizations. Unfortunately, the EU article was from 2008, and more recent evaluations of Polish environmental work have been less favorable.
