Trump and Musk want to to shut down the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau because it was created by ElizabethWarren, whom they hate, before she was a senator.

The agency was originally proposed in 2007 by Elizabeth Warren while she was a law professor. The CFPB’s creation was authorized by the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, whose passage in 2010 was a legislative response to the financial crisis of 2007–08 and the subsequent Great Recession[3] and is an independent bureau within the Federal Reserve.[4]
She served as chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel of the Troubled Asset Relief Program, and proposed and established the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, for which she served as the first special advisor under President Barack Obama.[8]
